Everything changed – A LOT – during after menopause. My skin is completely different now than it was before. and it keeps changing every year.
Because of these contanst changesin my skin, including texture and wrinkles, I finally just gave up wearing makeup entirely. Nothing looked good anymore. I assume I was just past the age where I could wear makeup.
foundation did nothing but emphasize my rough texture, large pores, and it settled into my wrinkles like nobody’s business.
Don’t Give Up on Wearing Makeup over 50
I am here to tell you that it is possible to find makeup that works for you as you age. Yes, it is much more difficult to find the formulas that work on your skin than it used to be.
The secret is to keep your receipts! If it doesn’t work, by all means, take it back. And then try another, and another, and another.
Holy Grail Makeup over 50
When I first began my makeup rediscovery journey, I found it helpful to make a list of YouTube Infulencers in my age catagory and what their favorite products were.
Just a little warning – don’t pick the ones you like to watch but have different skin issues and concerns from you. I have dry skin, so I stopped buying foundation and concealer that the over 50 ladies with normal, combo, or oily skin loved. Their products never worked for me.
Use less makeup over 50
I hear advice on both sides of the aisle for this. I can understand how some women over 50 actually want to wear more makeup than less. The idea is to cover it all up, then start over by adding contouring and color back to your face.
I am totally against this for me personally. Althougy I support and respect all women and the way they prefer to wear their makeup.
For me, it’s about trying to achieve a look that is better than nothing. I like to look better than I do when I am wearing no makeup at all. AND, I want to look as natural as possible.
I feel the most confident this way. So I guess I am trying to say that you should keep experimenting until you find makeup products and application techniques that make you feel as confident as possible.
Makeup Color for Women Over 60
As we age, I believe color becomes more important than ever. Sometimes the eyeshadow or blush colors that we have worn our entire lives just don’t look as good as they used to. Why is that?
As we age, our skin becomes thinner. More of our body parts – veins, capillaries, fat – start to become more visible. This means tha actual color of face changes. I feel more like a patchwork of color now than I did before menopause.
When I look in the mirror now, I see purple and green around my eye socket, red blotches here and there, and dark veins on my temples that I never showed thru before.
Although my undertone is the same, the makeup “colors” and the intensity of the pigments are more important to me than ever before.
