PM Skincare Routine for Women over 50

I use more actives and products at night than I do in the morning. PM Skincare routines are usually designed to stimulate change in your skin with active ingredients. My skincare routine in the evening is also a time for my skin to reset, heal, and regenerate while I sleep.

I don’t know for sure that this actually happens, but I like to believe in the magic elixers! And it’s relaxing ritual that makes me feel better and helps me sleep.

It provides the skin with the nourishment it needs to stay healthy and youthful during the night.

The PM skincare routine is an important part of any skin care routine. It provides the skin with the nourishment it needs to stay healthy and youthful during night time hours.

There are many different things you can do to your skin that can help it stay young, healthy, and beautiful.

Cleaning your skin before bed is essential in order to remove all of the impurities from your day and prepare your skin for rest.

Cleaning your face at night will get rid of dirt, oil, makeup, and other impurities that have accumulated throughout the day.

Serums are a great way to add nutrients back into dry or aging skin without adding too much moisture because they are often light weight formulas that

PM Double Cleanse

For the first step of my nightly double cleanse I’m currently using Soap and Glory Cleansing Balm – Glow Your Mind.

Keep in mind if you leave it on 1-2 mintues you will get a gentle exfoliation. I typically do not leave it on my face that long, so I don’t irratie my skin.

Double cleansing is the process of first using a makeup remover to remove makeup, then following up with an oil or balm cleanser to remove impurities.

This process is done in order to ensure that all makeup and impurities are removed from the skin. Double cleansing can be done in one step, or as two separate steps.

The first step is removing makeup with a remover (oil-based or water-based) cleansing balm. The second step is removing impurities with an oil or balm cleanser.

Some people like to use two different products for each step – one for makeup removal and one for impurity removal – while others like to use the same product for both steps.

The choice of which method you prefer comes down to personal preference and skin type.

Equate Beauty Hydrating Cleanser

I get this at Walmart. It is cheap. I like this equate facial cleanser as step two in my PM routine double cleanse because it leaves my skin feeling clean and fresh without feeling dry. Sometimes boring skincare without fancy ingredients is exactly what you need.

I keep a bottle of this in the shower to wash my face when I am feeling especially lazy and don’t want to do my official skincare routine at the sink.

This is a dupe for CeraVe Hydrating Facial Cleanser, but don’t tell them I told you? Just kidding, it is obviously a dupe because they set it right next to the CeraVe Cleanser on the shelf at wally world.

My anti-aging miracle step

RetinA is often referred to as the gold standard of anti-aging topical treatments. I started it late in the game, age 57. But better late than never. I worked my way up from over the counter products in the cosmetics section to prescription Tretinoin .025%.

My entire Rentin A journey is too long to go into in this post. But I use my “tret” about 5 out of seven nights. Every single night week after week and I still get a little sensitivity. Generally I skip a night every 2-3 nights.

Nothing fancy or secret here, I buy it in generic form at the pharmacy. yes, you have to have a prescription for it. That’s the downside for sure. I hear some get theirs in Canada or Mexico off of websites. I have not tried that yet.

CosRx Advanced Snail Mucin 96 Essence

Snail Mucin has been a lifesaver for me. I attribute this one product to the reason I am able to use Rentin A. (talk aobut the mucin healing restorative properties)

CosRx is a Korean Beauty company. I nabbed my bottle at TJMaxx, but I have repurchsed it from Ulta’s website. And yes, I will repurchase this again.

The skin is the largest organ in the body, and it is important to take care of it. A good moisturizer can help keep your skin hydrated and healthy. I like the essense better than the creams. Seems purer somehow to me. The exact name of it is CoxRx Advanced Snail Mucin 96 Essence.

Snail mucin is a natural product that has been used for centuries to heal wounds and soothe irritated skin. It has a soothing effect on sensitive and irritated skin, thanks to its healing properties.

Snail mucin skincare products are popular in Korea because they are believed to be more effective than many other products on the market today.

I use this AM and PM after my serums but before any other ingredients. It is a tad bit slimy – did I mention is it made from snails? yep. Not vegan…. I don’t know if they treat the snails with cruelty or not, haven’t been to Korean to see for myself.

But I will say is does indeed have healing, restorative properties for my skin.

Juice Beauty Geen Apple Brightening Eye Cream

I haven’t been please with the product. You can watch my YouTube video about this if you want to see the details. The main ingredients are Squalane, CoQ10, Vitamins and Green Tea.

In summary, I think this product is overpriced. I see no brightening effect on my skin around my eyes whatsoever. I will give it credit for making the skin around my eyes feel moisturized.

Your skin may be different! But I will not be repurching this product.

Kojic Acid Serum by Evagloss Natural Skincare

I was searching for a serum with kojic acid for quite awhile before I found this one on Amazon. I found plenty of serum containing Kojic Acid but they all contained additional ingredients that I wasn’t interested in testing. Many contained an over the counter Rentinol product which I defantiely

didn’t want to add to my PM skincare routine. I use it because I want to as proactive step to help prevent my age spots (most were treated with a laser and disappeared) from coming back. It is said to help fade age spots. So far it is working for me. But please remember I am fanatical about applying SPF every single moring – no matter what.

Kojic acid is a by-product of the fermentation process and is used for skin lightening. It is also used for disinfection, preservation, as well as an ingredient in certain cosmetics.

The use of kojic acid has been popular in Japan and Korea for centuries. It was first introduced to the Western world in the 1980s when Japanese pharmaceutical company Kanebo began exporting it to Europe.

Kojic acid is most commonly found in skin lightening creams that are designed to reduce hyperpigmentation or dark spots caused by acne scarring or other conditions like melasma.

Final Step in my PM Skincare Routine

Always, always use a protective moisturizer as your final step in your PM skincare routine. This is even more important if you have dry skin. Currently, I’m loving this moisturizer – the La Roche-Posay Toleriane Double Repair Face Moisturizer.

The idea here is to lock in your active ingredients as well as restore your skin’s moisture after double cleansing. I like to use a heavier, more occlusive final night cream as the last step in my PM routine.

I call it a sleeping mask. Some products actually include the word sleeping mask in the name. These are typically quite an heavy, and thick moisturizing cream.

Depending on your level of dryness, you will need to play around and experiment to find the perfect thickness for your own personal night cream.

The reason I love it

Soothing and Calming! Although it has dimished a great deal over the past year, my skin still get red, hot, and burns occastionally after I use my serums at night. My favorite aspect of useing this as my night cream is that it soothes irritation almost immediatly. It just feels good on my face.

I also love that it asporbs quickly.

Right now it’s warm weather, and I am using Laroche posey double repair moisturezer every night. It is not as thick as most night creams. This moisturizer can be used in the AM or PM.

I recently wrote an in-depth product review detailsing my personal experience with La Roche Posey moisturizer.
